The first shot of the Pfizer vaccine was to healthcare workers in the US on Monday, since then more than a million Americans are vaccinated Centres for Disease Control and Prevention announced.
Covid Vaccine: One of the main challenges with vaccinating the US population is producing and distributing the shots for Covid-19. Vaccination in the US began on 14 December, with a critical care nurse in New York City receiving the first injection of a drug developed by Pfizer and BioNTech. And there it reaches the one-million mark.
Covid Vaccine reaches million Americans
More than a million people in the United States have received a first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, Centers For Disease Control and Prevention Director Robert Redfield announced Wednesday, calling it an “ early but important milestone.”
“ With cases of Covid-19 continuing to surge nationwide, this achievement comes to at a critical time and will help to protect those on the front lines- our health care providers treating Covid-19 patients- as well as our most vulnerable: elder individuals living in nursing homes and assisted- living facilities,” he said in a news report.
Administration of the Covid vaccine began 10 days ago, due to a vast rise of new cases per day exceeded 200,000 and deaths been more than 2,000 per day, as per reports from Washing Post Tracking.
While celebrating the vaccine’s one-million mark, Redfield penned, “ we also acknowledge the challenging path ahead” He said the goal is for everyone to be able to easily get vaccinated against Covid-19 as soon as large enough quantities are available” and the Federal Government is working to “distribute vaccine doses as quickly as possible to accomplish vaccination fo the American public.“
He continued by saying “ Vaccination is a critical tool in bringing this unprecedented pandemic to an end.” “ But until every person in the U.S. is able to get a Covid-19 vaccine, we continue to as Americans to embrace proven public health strategies including social distancing, good hand hygiene, and wearing a mask in public to reduce the risk of transmission and protect our communities.”
The supply of the vaccine is currently limited, with 100 million doses in the U.S’s first batch Pfizer, and the Trump administration had announced a new agreement Wednesday to double that amount by the end of July.
The stable deal pertains enough doses to immunize millions of people with the two-dose regimen.
More than 300,000 Americans have died and 16.5 million have been infected since January 2020, and the US faces an uphill battle to curb the virus.
What you need to know about the vaccine safety
The FDA’s Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) allows a drug to be used as a treatment while studies are still being carried out to determine safety and effectiveness. Critics say the process is less rigorous and more likely to lead to health complications.
Johnson & Johnson, another US drug company, is currently testing a vaccine and could submit the data to EUA in January. The company will develop a single jab.
