Earlier During her work as a global ambassador for the Estee Lauder Companies’ Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, Liz has insisted she’s witnessed ‘great changes’ in research and attitudes towards the disease. Elizabeth’s grandmother also suffered from Cancer. The actress, 54, detailed losing her nan during a time ‘when nobody spoke about it’ back in 1992, and has since played a significant role in the fight against cancer for almost three decades. “ It’s a reminder of my grandmother and all of those touched by breast cancer”-wrote Elizabeth.
One in eight women will develop breast cancer at some point in their life. However, those who have already had the disease have double the risk of developing new cancer in another area of the same breast, or in the other breast. Genetics is thought to be the reason – but in the majority of cases, the exact genes responsible have not yet been discovered.
