Emmy 2020 Best Drama Series – ‘Watchman’ and ‘Schitt’s Creek and Zendaya to be the youngest lead actress

Emmy Award 2020- HBO Succession- best drama, Schitt’s Creek- Comedy Award, Watchmen- Best limited series, and Jimmy Kimmel hosted the show with an empty arena.  

The 72nd Emmy Award 2020 took place on Sunday night, The award function was held virtually due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. The award was live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, with no red Carpet, no audience, and, apart from the presenter, no attendees.

HBO Drama “Succession” had a

big win in the Prime Emmy 2020 Television award, picking up acting, directing, and best drama prizes. HBO’s fantasy series who have dominated the award ceremony for years for its different seasons were waiting for the spotlight for 2020. 

Grabbing the night top prize- best drama series- in four out of the last five years HBO ended up winning 30 awards overall.

Reformed by Damon Lindelof from the graphic novel, “ Watchman”  a series that grappled with white supremacy and police brutality hence this topic could seek more attention, since the news in the wake of the police killing of ‘George Floyd.’ Regina King also won for best actress in for her portrayal of Sister Night in ” Watchman.”

John Oliver’s “ Last Week Tonight,” an HBO stalwart took the best variety talk series for a fifth straight year.

And one of the night’s big surprises is from the queen of television Zendya won the best actress in a drama for her role as Rue on HBO’s “Euphoria.” The youngest Emmy winner for the best lead actress.

“ She is younger than Baby Yoda and she already has an Emmy,” Jimmy Kimmel said.

“This is pretty crazy,” Zendaya said as she clasped her hands over her effigy, as she couldn’t believe it was real. 

Besides the Triumphs aside, the night was stolen by the big-hearted Canadian comedy “ Schitt’s Creek,” a series created by Daniel Levy with his father the writer Eugene Levy, just swapped away all the comedy awards during the Sunday telecast.

Jimmy Kemmel hosted from a nearly empty arena, the broadcast, on ABC and HuluLive were not at all the same as past shows.
