After a close analysis of recent tweets by Donald Trump from the @realDonaldTrump account, Twitter has officially suspended his account forever! The announcement came from Twitter that they had to suspend the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.
Of late, thousands of protesters supporting US President Donald Trump breached the security of the US capitol late on Wednesday night as Congress was certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s victory. In the context of these horrific events in the US Capitol this week, Twitter made it clear on Wednesday that additional violations of the Twitter Rules would potentially result in this very course of action.
Further Twitter had to stick on to its decision of prohibiting Donald Trump from the platform of Tweets. A serious indictment indeed.
The decision to suspend Trump’s account came after a pair of tweets on Friday, according to the one-to-many messaging platform.
On January 8, 2021, President Donald J. Trump tweeted:
“The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!”
@realDonaldTrump Suspended permanently for violating the “Glorification of Violence Policy”!
Shortly thereafter, the President tweeted:
“To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th.”
“These two Tweets must be read in the context of broader events in the country and the ways in which the President’s statements can be mobilized by different audiences, including to incite violence, as well as in the context of the pattern of behavior from this account in recent weeks,” Twitter said.
Even though the account @realDonaldTrump was momentarily back again, Twitter was forced to adhere to this decision of permanent suspension.
Performing a close reading of both these tweets, in one of them Trump vowed that none of his supporters would be “disrespected” and in another he said he would not be attending Biden’s inauguration on January 20, as is customary. After a series of readings and re-readings Twitter came to the conclusion that such Tweets have the potential to incite further violence and hence have to suspend it. Also, they said that there are multiple indicators that they are being received which was understood as an encouragement to do so.
