Google announced a new feature that will let users limit ads related to certain categories- most notably alcohol and with gambling an additional option.
Google has announced that it will in the future be allowing its users to limit the number of ads related to alcohol and gambling if they don’t want to see them.
The feature will be activated in a phased manner, beginning with YouTube Ads in the US, and then aiming to introduce in Google and You tube globally in early 2021. Countries that don’t implement restrictions on such ads will not find any changes in their policies.
As per the company blog post, it will provide YouTube users with more controls or limit ads on sensitive topics such as gambling. To implement they will add a new feature in Ad Setting that will allow users to limit targeted advertising for such topics.
Google New Feature
Google stated – “ We’ve heard feedback that some people would prefer to limit ads in certain categories like gambling so today, we’re launching a new control in Ad Settings, enabling people to see fewer gambling ads, as an additional option,”
Moreover, the option will not completely eliminate alcohol or gaming ads, only limit those ads containing applicable content. Also, the decision to limit such ads will be reversible.
