He participated in this rally without wearing a mask or socially distancing. Calabrese wrote, “I realize people will speculate about the Tulsa rally, but Herman did a lot of travelling the past week,” “I don’t think there is any way to trace this to the one specific contact that caused him to be infected.” In 2006, Cain was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer in his colon and metastases to his liver and given a 30 percent survival rate. He underwent surgery and chemotherapy resulting in the remission of cancer.

In May 2011, Cain announced his 2012 presidential candidacy and later proposed a 9-9-9 tax plan, which advocated replacing taxes with 9% personal income tax, 9% federal sales tax, and a 9% corporate tax and reform tax laws to eliminate existing taxes. President Trump floated the possibility that he would Cain to the Federal Reserve Board, which later became unclear because of the sexual allegations against him. Cain was on the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City and served as CEO of the National Restaurant Association.
