The feature, which drew from characters in the director’s Spy Kids franchise and early aughts movie The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, followed the children of Earth’s superheroes that have to take on alien invaders that have kidnapped their parents. Rodriguez, the author of the special kids franchise shall return to join Netflix to design its sequel.
Initially the kids show premiered on Netflix on the day of Christmas 2020. Now its all set for round two. Also, according to some recent reports, ‘We Can Be Heroes’ raked in a record-breaking viewership in the US during Christmas week. It reportedly took the first place on the top 10 kids overall list in 88 out of 93 countries. As per the reports of the streamer, 44 million households viewed We Can be Heroes in the movie’s first 28 days on the service.

Also, actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas recently made an announcement about the ‘We Can Be Heroes’ sequel.
“Heroics Headquarters projection: 44 MILLION FAMILIES will have suited up for ‘WE CAN BE HEROES’ in its first 4 weeks!! And… BREAKING NEWS: The Heroics are coming back for round two. Sequel is in development with @rodriguez and @Netflix! #WeCanBeHeroes,” she wrote.
Billed as an action-adventure, “We Can Be Heroes” features Chopra Jonas as a nemesis to a group of children who team up to save the planet and their superhero parents who are kidnapped by the aliens. Rodriguez, also known for directing films like Mexico trilogy — “El Mariachi”, “Desparado” and “Once Upon a Time in Mexico” — and “Alita: Battle Angel”, has produced the film as well.
Apart from Priyanka Chopra Jonas, the film also features Pedro Pascal, Christian Slater, Boyd Holbrook, Sung Kang and veteran actor Christopher McDonald. Child stars Akira Akbar, Nathan Blair, Andrew Diaz, Andy Walken and Hala Finley are also part of the cast.
