It is a 10-digit number that provides information regarding the details of travel printed on the ticket for an Indian Railways train. PNR number usually printed at the top left corner of the tickets available at the railway station booking window. In the case of the E-Ticket, the PNR number mentioned at the top in a separate cell.

If you are a registered user, you can check your PNR status for railway tickets through the official website of IRCTC.
Step 1: Go to the IRCTC official website https://www.irctc.co.in/nget/train-search.
Step 2: Log on to the site using your login details
Step 3: Click on ‘Trains’ found on the Menu Bar. Choose PNR Status from the dropdown list. It will take you to the PNR status checking page.
Step 4: Enter your PNR number in the box. Click the ‘Get Status’ button.
Step 5: Now, you will get the PNR status of your booking with all ticket information.

Steps need to know for Unregistered users

Unregistered users can check it through the Indian Railways Passenger Reservation Enquiry site powered by CRIS.

Step 1: Go to the CRIS
Step 2: signup on to the site using your details
Step 3: Click on ‘Trains’ found on the Menu Bar. Choose PNR Status from the dropdown list. It will take you to the PNR status checking page.
Step 4: Enter your PNR number in the box. Click the ‘Get Status’ button.
Step 5: Now, you will get the PNR status of your booking with all ticket information.

How to Check PNR Status through SMS

Indian Railways also allows you to check your PNR status through SMS in case you don’t have access to the internet. For this, you have to send a text message to 139 in the format given below: Format: PNR <10 digit PNR Number >

You will receive an SMS with your PNR status, confirmation updates, and journey details.

CNF PNR Status -This means the ticket has confirmed, and the allotment of the passenger’s seat done after making the chart.

WL PNR Status -It stands for Waiting List, and the passenger with a Waiting List ticket cannot board the train.

RAC PNR Status -It stands for Reservation Against Cancellation. It is a type of ticket that ensures travel but does not guarantee the allocation of a berth. Although, a traveler can later allocate a proper berth if the other travelers with a confirmed train ticket don’t board the train

CAN Status -This means the ticket has canceled and the passenger cannot board the train.

GNWL Status -This stands for General Waitlist. If GNWL is present on the ticket, passengers can board the train if other passengers have canceled their cards.

TQWL Status -This stands for Tatkal Waitlist. It shows on the ticket if the passenger who has booked a ticket on tatkal is on the waiting list.

PQWL Status -This stands for Pooled Quota Waitlist. It is for a passenger who travels from the station where the train starts and gets down in a station before the last train destination.

RLWL Status -This stands for Remote Location Waitlist. It is for a passenger who travels between intermediary stations.
