Stop Hate For Profit campaign
Stop Hate For Profit campaign

Top-rated social platforms, Facebook and Instagram will be quieter these days as more celebrities are participating in the “Stop Hate For Profit” campaign. Celebrities like Dicaprio, Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry and many more will not be posting on either Instagram or Facebook today as they take part in a social media freeze against Facebook.

The “Stop Hate For Profit” campaign began earlier this year because it wants Facebook to stop disinformation and hate on its platform. The two main aims of the “Week of Action” are to “raise awareness of Facebook’s harmful impact on our society” and “demand Facebook enact critical changes to their product in advance of the U.S. election in November.”

Kim announced yesterday that she will not be posting today because she cannot stay silent while the platforms are allowing “the spreading of hate, propaganda and misinformation”. Kim also urged her followers not to post on Instagram and Facebook.

“I love that I can connect directly with you through Instagram and Facebook, but I can’t sit by and stay silent while these platforms continue to allow the spreading of hate, propaganda and misinformation – created by groups to sow division and split America apart – only to take steps after people are killed. Misinformation shared on social media has a serious impact on our elections and undermines our democracy.  Please join me tomorrow when I will be “freezing” my Instagram and FB account to tell Facebook to #StopHateForProfit. Link in bio for more info on how to preserve truth”- Kardashian wrote in her post.

The Oscar winner Dicaprio also joined the “Stop Hate For Profit” campaign. “I do use Instagram and Facebook, but I want it to be a force for good – not hate, violence and disinformation,” said the actor. He also urges the followers to join him in the campaign.

The American actress Julianne Moore is the one among them. “Violent hate has spread on Facebook for far too long. This is not happening accidentally” wrote the actress on her Instagram post. Julianne also urged the followers to join her.

American singer-actress Demi Lovato also participates in the campaign. “The hate that is constantly being uploaded and posted can’t be ignored anymore” the actress captioned at her Instagram post.

“In a time of deceit telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” – George Orwell”. The American singer Katy Perry shared her campaign participation update following these words. The singer also asks the public to her.

The above list remains incomplete as many more are participating in this campaign, as the campaign is becoming stronger due to celebrity involvement. This can make Facebook under pressure and it’s expected that Facebook management will make a recheck and solve this issue.
