Tony Nominee ‘Oz’ Anthony Chisholm breathed his last at 77

Anthony Chisholm, a veteran stage, film, and television actor passed away at the age of 77. Lovingly addressed as ‘Chiz’ he was known for his acting versatility and dedication to his artistry. The death of the legend was reported by his talent agency.

Nominated for Tony Award for Best supporting actor, for his role of Elder Joseph Barlow in the play ‘Radio Golf’, Chisholm was acknowledged for his acting flexibility.

Born April 9,1949, he made his screen debut in”Upright” in 1968 followed by”Beloved”, “Putney Swipe” and Lee’s “Chi-Raq”. His acting career catapulted heights with his role as Burr Redding in the HBO series”OZ” for three seasons.

He is a winner of both the ‘Drama Desk Award’ and the ‘Obie Award’ for August Wilson’s “Jitney”. He has also received the NAACP Theatre Award, the AUDELCO Award, the Ovation Award and the I.R.N.E. Award.

His latest performance was recorded as in “Jitney” on its national tour from September 2019 through February 2020. 

His death is indeed a great loss to the film industry. The void he left shall remain forever.
