The English actor and DJ, Idris Elba helped poor farmers by introducing U.N. fund. He asked richer and developed countries to prevent needless hunger of the farmers who are suffering from novel coronavirus.

The actor and his wife, Sabrina Dhowre Elba were nominated as ambassadors for IFAD, a U.N. agency. The IFAD announced that it would deposit $40 million to the new fund.

IFAD invests in rural people to reduce poverty, improve nutrition and increase food security. It is the international community’s most direct conduit for channelling investment to small-scale producers and financing rural development.

“The world’s advanced economies are amid this pandemic right now and, of course, they must do everything they can to help their people. But the fact is, global action is also a matter of self-interest. As long as the pandemic is still raging anywhere, it will pose a threat everywhere.” mentions Elba.

IFAD has been helping poor farmers from various developing countries deal with COVID-19, and it’s President Gilbert F. Houngbo said due to the lockdown measures in many places, farmers were worried about losing their income. He says to fight together to avoid food insecurity and look at the problem as a global community fighting against poverty.

The sexiest man of 2013 and his wife had already given funds to support IFAD to prevent the economic crisis from novel coronavirus.

IFAD aims at least $200 million from governments and the private sectors. The facility seeks money to continue growing their crops and gain access to financial services.
