Wearing masks and social distancing help to reduce the chance of being exposed to the virus or spreading it to others, but these measures are not enough what you need – is the vaccination.
Covid-19 has killed more than millions of people globally. The only real precaution from the virus to be taken besides wearing protective masks, hand washing, and social distancing is the vaccine.
More than 56,000 Hawaii residents have already taken the vaccination, but some are still hesitant to get the shots thinking of the consequences to be faced after getting vaccinated.
The suggestion of Residents Who Got Vaccinated
A Honolulu resident who got vaccination commented about her experience, for which she was initially afraid because of the rumors been spread for the long-term effect of the vaccine. But changed her mind once her friends got it without any complications.
She commented “ I am anti-flu shot. I hear so many bad things about the flu shot. I never took that. So I kind of thought that this vaccine would be similar, but actually, it’s apples and oranges. And the pandemic is dangerous. I live with an elderly parent, so I thought it would be the best thing for me.” Madeira Said “ Considering what I’m watching on the news with the pandemic, I urge everybody to take the vaccine. But I don’t think anybody should be forced to take it- It shouldn’t be mandatory.”
Dr. Kalani Brady, of the University of Hawaii at Manoa John A. Burns School of Medicine, said there are more pros than cons to getting vaccinated.
“The pro is that you don’t die of Covid-19. We still have no other protection possible. And hospitals are at capacity in Hawaii, and we’re powerless in treating these patients…. ( The vaccine) gives us 95% protection if you take both doses. That includes both Pfizer and Moderna vaccine.” Brady suggested.
How Safe is the Covid-19 Vaccine?
The U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for two shots of Covid vaccines which are shown to be safe and effective finding it from large clinical trials. Both Pfizer’s and Moderna are reviewed by the FDA. Both the manufacturers report that their vaccines show approximately 95% efficacy at preventing both mild and severe symptoms fo Covid -19.
