The World Environment Day celebrated every year on June 5 brings a new theme of
“Celebrating Bio-Diversity” hosted in Colombia in partnership with Germany, The day signifies raising worldwide awareness among people to take proper measures and actions to save the environment.

The campaign was first celebrated in 1974 in the city of USA Spokane, With the theme “ Only One Earth” A flagship campaign raising awareness on upcoming environmental disasters from Global emissions, overpopulation, natural calamities, and extinction faced by animals, and plants. The main intent of the day is to spread awareness to people that they have an important role in maintaining biodiversity and preserving nature for future generations.

The day is perceived by 100’s of countries with new themes every year, the last year 2019 theme was ‘ Air Pollution’ and for 2020  ‘Celebrate Bio-Diversity hence it is important to conserve biodiversity as all are interconnected hence it’s important for the survival of both human and animal species.

As the world is reeling under the effects of Pandemic, the biodiverse universe around is thriving, since the Covid-19 lockdown, the environment is served with clear air with less pollution the sky becomes clear. Nature is regaining its spaces. Plants and other species can breathe clean air, due to the absence of swirling human activities making the environment polluted.

“ Recent events. From bushfires in Brazil, the United States and Australia to locust infestations across East Africa- and now, a global disease pandemic- demonstrate the interdependence of humans and the webs of life,in which they exist,” the UN said in a statement.

For a healthy living environment plays an important role both humans and animals environment provides us with food, air, etc So to consume we need to take care of environment it is truly said that “ The difference between animals and humans are, the animals change themselves for the environment and humans change the environment for themselves” The air we breathe, the food we consume, the sun rays we get all are a gift from the environment but we just don’t care to preserve it.

We can take care by planting more trees, reducing air pollution, educating other people by giving them awareness and also bringing change in the lifestyle so as to put less burden on the environment. “ We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children,” Native American proverb. “ Every day is Earth day”.

The Vice President Of India Mr. Venkaiah Naidu greeted people on the occasion by saying, “Let there be a new beginning on this World Environment Day. Together, we can secure the well-being of the people and the planet.”

He added that keeping in view the ecological crisis that our planet faces today, we must enhance our efforts towards preserving biodiversity and restoring fragmented ecosystems, to only fight the climate crisis but also to ensure food security, water supply, and safety of our people.

Confidently we can be unified and bring some changes, we ourselves have to take the responsibilities and survive the changes in our life. “Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need but not every man’s greed” quoted by Mahatma Gandhi.
